Selected work

Four films that show what the rest look like.

See all work

A film is not a record of what happened. It is an argument about what mattered.

I run BJ Media from Bristol, United Kingdom. Weddings, brand films, documentary and commercial work — different rooms, the same job.

Small crews. Available light where it holds. Sound taken as seriously as picture. And an edit built for meaning before it is built for beauty.

Case study, 2025

Grain & Ground

A brand film about a roastery that buys from four farms and remembers every one of them.

Warm interior light across a roastery floor, steam catching the window.

Northbank had a story that kept getting flattened into product photography. The brief was to put the people back in: the roaster reading a colour change by eye, the shift that starts at four in the morning, the sample cupping that decides what a season tastes like.

What clients say

The films are the argument. This is the corroboration.

Read all client words

We barely noticed anyone was filming, which is the highest compliment I can pay. Then the film arrived and half of it was moments we did not know had happened.

The interview questions were better than the ones our agency wrote. What came back sounds like us on a good day rather than a brand deck read aloud.

Three sites, five days, and production stopped for a total of about twenty minutes. People still bring the film up in interviews eighteen months later.

The highlights film went out at nine the next morning. Every event film we had commissioned before that arrived three weeks late and got forty views.

How a film gets made

Five stages, and no surprises in the middle of them.

Every commission runs on the same five stages, whether it is a one-day commercial or a documentary shot over four months.

  1. 1

    Discover

A conversation about what the film is for and who has to watch it. Most briefs change in this call, usually for the better.

  2. 2

    Plan

A treatment, a schedule and a shot list, plus the unglamorous parts: permissions, insurance, and where the light will be at four o'clock.

  3. 3

    Capture

Small crews, long lenses, available light wherever it holds. The aim is to change the room as little as possible while filming in it.

  4. 4

    Edit

A first cut for structure, then two rounds of notes. Grade and sound mix happen last, once the shape of the film has stopped moving.

  5. 5

    Deliver

Masters in the formats you actually need, cutdowns for the places they will play, and the selects archived for twelve months.

Let's create something remarkable.

Tell me what you are making and when it needs to exist. I reply to every enquiry within two working days, whether or not I am the right person for it.
